H-19 helicopters were the workhorses of multiple US military branches throughout the 1950s. They also made their mark on global aviation, serving in well over a dozen countries. It served in combat, transport, and rescue service roles for the military and had a significant second life in civilian aviation, as well. H-19s can carry up to eight stretchers when used as rescue transports. Their range of 470 miles made them perfect for picking up injured or downed pilots during the Korean War.
